A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available for a project funded by the Wilburforce Foundation to characterize archetypal patterns of wildlife conservation and conflict across western North America. We seek a social-ecological systems scientist or quantitative social scientist to lead data analysis and publication primary; as well as, support outreach to conservation partners and funders. The position will contribute to research to identify the dominant narratives driving conflict and collaboration around wildlife management in western North America and understand how spatial variation in these narratives affect the design and effectiveness of wildlife reintroduction and conservation strategies. The successful candidate will apply a combination of web data extraction, natural language processing, topic modeling, and statistical learning classifiers (e.g., artificial neural networks, support vector machines, boosted regression trees) to corpera of public documents related to wildlife management in western North America as part of a larger effort to develop spatial models to help inform the design and deployment of conservation actions.

Boise State University seeks a postdoctoral researcher in support of a National Science Foundation grant (EAR-2121595) examining the intersection of roots, rock, regolith, and climate supervised by Dr. Alejandro Flores in the Department of Geosciences. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team of researchers at Oregon State University, University of Kansas, University of California Riverside, Colorado School of Mines, and Penn State University. The role of the postdoc in this team will be to develop and conduct numerical experiments using the Community Land Model-Functionally Assembled Terrestrial Ecosystem Simulator (CLM-FATES) model to examine how roots can be better represented in global land models in the context of emerging knowledge about the structure and function of Earth’s Critical Zone. The successful candidate will join a team of postdocs at collaborating institutions, gaining immediate benefits of an interdisciplinary network of early career researchers and the associated benefits of contributing to and being included in diverse publications during the project, and nurturing potentially long-lasting collaborators.
