Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position is responsible for major Alumni Association events, implementation of marketing campaigns to create increased brand awareness, lead and supervise communication efforts to enhance the perception of the Boise State Alumni Association.

Department Overview:

A nonprofit Idaho organization, the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to secure philanthropic support for the university by developing and nurturing relationships with our alumni and friends and stewarding gifts made to support Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership, the Boise State University Alumni Association, and the Bronco Athletic Association.

Mission: To build a greater Boise State University, we provide fundraising leadership and service across the university and partner with donors and alumni to inspire private support.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

60% of the time the Director Alumni Involvement will: 

  • Work with staff to create strategic event opportunities based upon association goals and objectives.
  • Select appropriate event venues and oversee all logistics.
  • Manage budget based on cost/revenue analysis; coordinate reservations and payment processing.
  • Manage relationship with Foundation data managers as related to database event module.
  • Negotiate sponsorships, vendor services contacts and oversee fulfillment.
  • Recruit and organize staff and volunteers for event functions.
  • Work with the colleges and athletics to execute socials and reunions.
  • Serve as event coordinator for Boise State’s Homecoming Celebration and related events which includes serving as the event coordinator.
  • Recruit and lead working campus committee; oversee all meetings including writing and distributing meeting minutes as it pertains to Homecoming.
  • Serve as alumni staff liaison to auction coordinator, Scholarship Auction Gala.
  • Required travel to include weekends, weeknights, and some holidays.

35% of the time the Director Alumni Involvement will: 

  • Facilitate strong partnerships with Bronco Sports Properties and licensing office.
  • Manage use of association logo for brand identity in all merchandise, print materials, web graphics.
  • Implement best practices and utilize analytics to enhance engagement via social media, email, and our website presence.
  • Oversee vendor relationship with online-community provider.

5% of the time the Director Alumni Involvement will: 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Event planning.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in marketing and communications.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to balance multiple tasks, constituencies, timelines, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions and problem solve.
  • Ability to work and excel in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the internet and on-line technology.
  • Soft skills to include: flexibility, negotiation, compromise, collaboration.
  • Must be able to work and/or travel some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years experience or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in alumni relations, especially higher education, or equivalent professional event experience.
Salary and Benefits:
