Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position will direct and execute strategic communications and marketing that promotes the mission and goals of the division. Identify growth opportunities and serve as a strategic leader. Produce a broad range of internal and external communications.

This position may have the opportunity to work hybrid where a mix of in-person work from on Campus in Boise and an alternative work location is utilized. Candidates must be able to work on-site as needed.

Department Overview:

The Division of Research and Economic Development provides comprehensive support for faculty during all phases of the research endeavor; manages the university’s intellectual property portfolio; facilitates relationships with industry for research and commercialization collaboration; and leads outreach aimed at fostering economic development in Boise and the region.

Level Scope:

Experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Communications Manager must:

  • Manage 1.5 FTE communications staff and oversee their workload and daily activities.
  • Collaborate with leadership on developing and implementing communication and marketing strategies that enhances the brand of Boise State University and the Division of Research and Economic Development to our external partners and streamline communication and transparency for internal stakeholders.
  • Direct special projects that enhance the reputation, visibility and understanding of the division, including the development of materials designed to target specific audiences (i.e. Industry Partners) and the development of internal and external website content.
  • Develop and refine promotions, marketing materials and communications to ensure consistency and appeal.
  • Establish relationships and collaborate across campus with the Office of Marketing and Communities, College and other Divisions, and regularly inform on activities and accomplishments.
  • Facilitate new directions and initiatives within the division, including preparation, editing, exchanging information and working on teams.

35% of Time the Communications Manager:

  • Maintain, in coordination with Communications Specialist, Sr. all Division of Research and Economic Development web pages (internal and external).
  • Create Social Media content for LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Create talking points and branded presentation content for the Vice President of Research and Economic Development.
  • Provide storytelling assistance to campus partners as it relates to the promotion of research and creative activity at Boise State.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Division of Research and Economic Development Intranet content and other technical or informational materials.

5% of Time the Communications Manager:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong narrative and technical writing skills.
  • Excellence in both writing on deadline and directing and editing other writers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Typically a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years relevant experience or equivalent professional experience.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range is $74,000 to $80,000 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
