Job Summary/Basic Function:

The purpose of this position is to assist with the integration of electronic communications and social media into Alumni Relations and Annual Giving methods and strategies; assist with the utilization and support of digital marketing platforms (such as Marketing Cloud and Graduway) as a communications and outreach tool; assist with basic web, email and print graphic design services and maintenance of the division’s websites; and assist in creating strategic communications pieces and messaging in multiple media for advancement purposes.

A nonprofit Idaho organization, the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to secure philanthropic support for the university by developing and nurturing relationships with our alumni and friends and stewarding gifts made to support Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership, the Boise State University Alumni Association, and the Bronco Athletic Association.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures. Typically hold a Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential Functions:

60% of the time the Associate Director must:

  • Assist with the implementation of strategic cross-channel digital marketing communications within the Boise State University Foundation per university guidelines, initiatives and overall communication plan with a focus on alumni engagement, donor stewardship and annual giving.
  • Assist with the management and implementation of the university's annual giving program focusing on a data-based strategy for new-donor acquisition and stewardship/cultivation of the current donor base.
  • Help integrate electronic communication and social media into Foundation communications strategy and tactics, with special emphasis on Alumni Relations and Annual Giving methods and strategies.
  • Help execute strategic cross-channel digital communications (email, web, social media) in all areas of the Foundation to increase awareness and engagement amongst alumni and friends.
  • Assist in providing creative direction, digital design and print graphic design services to the Foundation for items like mass emails using HTML, invitations, reports, direct mail pieces, donor proposals, online story-telling, video and other mediums.
  • Help coordinate a committee of cross-divisional and campus partners to drive the strategy, marketing and event efforts for Bronco Giving Day.

35% of the time the Associate Director must:

  • Helps maintain and update the division’s websites, including generation of content.
  • Assists in the design of creating strategic communications pieces and messaging in multiple media with concise goals and objectives, target markets, plans for execution and mechanisms for reporting results for all areas of the Foundation.
  • Helps develop, maintain and monitor departmental branding efforts to remain consistent with university guidelines for marketing and departmental goals and initiatives.
  • Identifies, builds and leverages key campus and off-campus relationships to enhance communication, brand awareness, fundraising, sponsorship and community engagement for both the division and the university amongst donors and alumni.

5% of the time the Associate Director must:

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Aptitude in message development, marketing principles, image management and constituent service.
  • Experience working with online content management systems (CMS), email marketing systems and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
  • Experience with management of web and social media strategy, digital marketing programs and HTML.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of graphic design tools and principles.
  • Strong computer skills with web design and graphic design software experience.
  • Ability to set goals and objectives to meet expected outcomes.
  • Team player with collaborative, positive attitude and sense of humor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree with at least 5 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
  • 5 years experience in same or similar type of work.
  • Experience in higher education.

Salary and Benefits:
