Job Summary/Basic Function:

This role provides essential strategic support for the Library’s marketing and communication efforts. The Specialist will devise and lead the Library’s communication strategy in support of the University’s, and the library’s own, strategic priorities and mission. The Specialist will create and deploy campaigns, projects, and communications across various social media platforms. They will also write copy, design and deploy marketing materials, and work with library departments to help support the visibility of, and engagement with, library resources, programming and initiatives.

The Specialist will help communicate the library’s values across digital and physical platforms to key stakeholders, including external friends and donors. Emphasis for this position is placed on telling the library’s story, building new audiences, and increasing visibility, impact and awareness of Albertsons Library.

This is an internal opportunity open only to current, regular employees of Boise State University.

Department Overview:

The Albertsons Library provides high quality, relevant information resources and services to Boise State students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Conveniently located in the center of campus, Albertsons Library serves as the vibrant, nurturing hub of Boise State where people and diverse ideas flourish. The library offers a variety of services and resources, including online databases, journals, eBooks, books, public computers, printers, scanners, 3D printers, audio/ video equipment, green screens, electronics, prototyping kits, vinyl cutters, archival materials, and quiet and collaborative study spaces.
While serving the communication and outreach needs of the entire library, the Communication Specialist will report to the Library Dean.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees. Typically hold a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential Functions:

● Leads the Library’s centralized communication and marketing efforts across networks, platforms, programs, and events, which may include advising, scheduling, and coordinating with internal Library personnel.

● Creates print and electronic communications utilizing design and publishing concepts. Materials could include e-newsletters, flyers, and event and marketing materials.

● Serves as lead media contact in collaboration with the Dean.

● Collaborates with Library units to develop deeper understanding of outreach needs.

● Collaborates with key stakeholders critical to Library success including the Office of Communications and Marketing.

● Provides quality control for electronic communication over social media platforms and websites, creating a cohesive, library-wide voice that aligns with the University’s brand and ensures the use of a storytelling strategy that emphasizes core values including a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

● Evaluates impact of communications efforts through use of digital metrics and qualitative data

● Collaborates with the Dean and other Library personnel to create and implement the Library’s annual Communication Plan.

● Work closely with the Library Dean, Library Leadership Team, and University Advancement to develop a consistent communication strategy in support of the Library’s donor relations stewardship and recognition plan, and fundraising program.

● In collaboration with others may, develop, schedule, coordinate and execute special events.

● May include supervision of student assistants.

● Knowledge of social media and the best ways to utilize each platform

● Excellent grammar, composition, and proofreading skills

● Advanced knowledge of design and publishing concepts

● Experience: thinking critically and using creative ways to solve problems. Communicating policies, procedures and complex concepts to a wide variety of skill and interest levels

● Excellent organizational skills and superior attention to detail.

● Ability to lead a team, project management and time management.

● Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate closely with a diverse set of stakeholders, both internal and external, on all aspects of projects, including planning, coordinating content, tracking progress, approvals, timelines, and budget.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 2 years experience.

Salary and Benefits:
