Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position teaches undergraduate laboratories and provides supplemental instruction in support of undergraduate lab and lecture courses

Level Scope:

A lecturer/instructor is a non-tenure-track teaching position.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Lab Instructor must:

  • Teaches laboratory sections, may vary each semester.
  • Teaching duties include a brief discussion of lab safety, lab procedures and lab equipment to be used.
  • Responsible for grading of all submitted lab reports and the maintenance of course sites for posting grades.
  • Expected to follow a grading rubric for each course.

35% of Time the Lab Instructor must:

  • Work with students in the Chemistry Instructional Center.
  • Meet weekly with Laboratory Coordinators and other Lab Instructors to make plans for upcoming labs.

5% of Time the Lab Instructor must:

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Planning and organization.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of general and organic chemistry.
  • Lab skills for all techniquest that may be used/taught in labs.
  • General laboratory equipment skills.
  • Ability to enforce the safety rules.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and college teaching experience or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhD in Chemistry or commensurate teaching experience
  • College teaching experience in general, organic, and/or analytical chemistry
  • GPA in Chemistry ≥ 3.2
Salary and Benefits:
The annual salary for this 9-month contract is $35,600. This is a 9-month contract with salary and benefits distributed over 12 months. Additional compensation may be available for instruction outside of the contract period.
