Job Summary/Basic Function:

This role is dedicated to fostering meaningful connections between alumni, students, and recent graduates, providing resources and opportunities to support their career growth and professional success. Additionally, this role involves collaborating closely with university departments, including Career Services in the Division of Student Affairs, to align alumni professional development initiatives with broader career education and readiness strategies.

Department Overview:

A nonprofit Idaho organization, the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to secure philanthropic support for the university by developing and nurturing relationships with our alumni and friends and stewarding gifts made to support Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership, the Boise State University Alumni Association, and the Bronco Athletic Association.

Mission: To build a greater Boise State University, we provide fundraising leadership and service across the university and partner with donors and alumni to inspire private support.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

60% of time, the Assistant Director’s responsibilities include:

Program Management

  • Develop, execute, and assess career, lifelong learning, and personal enrichment programs for alumni.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to create targeted career education resources, utilizing university platforms.

Event Planning and Resources

  • Plan and execute events, workshops, and webinars to support the career growth of alumni and soon to be graduates.
  • Create tools and resources that align with university goals and facilitate professional development.

Mentorship Programming

  • Lead the development and expansion of student-alumni mentorship initiatives, including BroncoLink.
  • Promote personal and professional growth through mentorship and peer networking opportunities.

Communication Planning

  • Assist in planning communications to inform alumni and students about enrichment and professional development opportunities.
  • Use newsletters, emails, social media, surveys and events to maintain engagement.

Career Services Liaison and Partnership

  • Serve as the primary liaison with Career Services, fostering employer connections and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Employer and Alumni Relations to promote career services and programs.

Partnership Development

  • Build partnerships with industry professionals and alumni-owned businesses to create career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to align initiatives with university goals.

35% of time, the Assistant Director’s responsibilities include:

Relationship Building

  • Strengthen alumni relationships to encourage participation in mentorship programs.
  • Engage alumni and employers to promote career support and networking opportunities.

Networking Events

  • Coordinate and promote networking events, career fairs, and panel discussions through various channels.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Track engagement metrics and prepare reports to assess and improve program effectiveness.
  • Follow established program plans while monitoring budget allocations by tracking engagement metrics and preparing reports to assess and improve program effectiveness.

University Representation

  • Represent the Boise State Foundation and Alumni Association at events, promoting professional development.

Student Worker Supervision

  • Mentor student workers, manage their projects, and support their professional growth.

5% of time, the Assistant Director’s responsibilities include:

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a university campus and with a varied population.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and execute career and/or professional development events, ensuring high-quality and exceptional customer service.
  • Experience with and/or participation in Career Fairs or Job Fairs.
  • Proficient in utilizing digital tools for event promotion and management.
  • Experience in mentorship and professional engagement, with an emphasis on relationship building and community development.
  • Understanding of best practices in alumni engagement, mentorship, and continuous learning.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in video conferencing.
  • Excellent organizational and collaboration skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Proactive, resilient mindset with a commitment to challenging the status quo and promoting innovative approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience in program development and management, particularly in professional development and mentorship.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for communication and event management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience plus 5 years experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education, specifically alumni relations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Business, Communication).
  • 2 years of experience or equivalent experience in alumni relations, career services, or a related field.

Salary and Benefits:
