Job Summary/Basic Function:

Boise State University invites interested applicants to apply for the position of Director, Business Operations and become a part of the Office of the Vice President, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management as we support and enrich each student’s journey to and through college. The Director of Business Operations will lead the development, implementation, and management of a centralized business support staffing model for the division to better support the business needs of departments. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Divisional Operations, this position will be responsible for ensuring consistency, efficiency, and scalability of financial processes across the division’s operational profile. The majority of work is done on-site with limited work-from-home opportunities.

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management provides strategic leadership and administrative support to departments dedicated to student success. Level Scope:

Manages a large team typically consisting of both experienced professionals and subordinate Managers. Focuses on tactical and operational plans with short to mid term focus; significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate Managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead project or program teams in one dept/job family. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines campus strategies for a program with campus wide impact.

You will have the opportunity to:
  • Lead the implementation of a centralized business support model for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management that integrates financial administration, accounting processes, procurement services, and operational functions.
  • Manage the phased migration of core business functions to centralized business services, minimizing the disruption to divisional stakeholders while maximizing the utilization and development of staff expertise.
  • Directly supervise and develop a team of financial, accounting, and other business administrators, ensuring effective execution of centralized business services.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment with the division’s strategic priorities to remove barriers and make the university easier to navigate for students and staff.
  • Lead efforts to integrate financial, operational, and student engagement data into a cohesive reporting structure using PowerPivot, Power BI, Oracle BI, and other platforms.
  • Establish and cultivate strategic partnerships with various campus entities, including SAEM departments, student-led organizations, academic units, and other administrative departments to enhance divisional and institutional outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience or equivalent, including 3 years managerial

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in business operations, finance, or project management within a complex organization (higher education experience preferred)
  • Experience with Oracle, Power BI, Domo, or similar financial reporting platforms.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management experience, with a proven track record of leading large-scale operational transformations.
  • Background in centralized/shared services models in higher education or other complex organizations.
  • Expertise in human resources operations, procurement, and contracting in a university setting.
  • Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting practices, with expertise in leveraging business intelligence tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in change management, systems thinking, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supervising and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
Salary and Benefits:
 
Salary range is $95,056 - $100,000 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
