Provide vital technical support and expertise for simulation operations and technology to include preparation, maintenance and repair of complex computerized, high-fidelity manikins and associated software, and the efficient operation of the data capture systems, related multimedia peripherals, and validating data collected during scenarios.
This is a 10-month position for a professional staff member.

Department Overview:
|
As a team member of the College of Health Sciences Simulation Center, this position provides vital technical support and expertise for simulation operations and technology to include preparation, maintenance and repair of complex computerized, high-fidelity manikins and associated software, and the efficient operation of the data capture systems, related multimedia peripherals, and validating data collected during scenarios. This position is also charged with setup, take-down, moulage, and programming of requested simulations, ensuring that desired outcomes are achieved.
The individual in this position must be able to communicate with various groups of faculty, staff, and community members. Must be detail-oriented and articulate in order to communicate with manufacturers and other hardware/software providers regarding complex issues and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate must be able to think critically, identify problems, troubleshoot, and take action to resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions:
|
Simulation Support (60%)
- Provide setup/takedown/moulage for requested simulation sessions.
- Responsible for the preparation of documents, setup boxes, and supplies for each simulation.
- Program, test, and run simulation scenarios as scheduled.
- and implement changes when necessary.
- Consult with faculty and staff on the appropriateness of simulations and accuracy of scenario documents.
- Analyze simulations and decide on needed equipment and moulage.
- Provide training/support/consulting to faculty and other simulation center staff in the technical aspects of simulation.
- Contribute to the development of simulation center policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Provide tours/demonstrations/trainings/forums about simulation and simulation technologies.
- Provide support and assists with other special projects or initiatives as needed.
Equipment, Software & Program Maintenance (20%)
- Provide specialized technical support/maintenance for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of server infrastructure, digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, and medical equipment.
- Provide technical support/maintenance for high-fidelity computerized manikins.
- Manage and install software and hardware upgrades, and maintain the functionality of manikin components and data capture system as directed by manufacturer support.
- Audit, test and ensure all equipment and systems run efficiently according to current specification requirements, keeping apprised of periodic product information releases.
- Ensure that knowledge and expertise in the use and operation of simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full-body patient simulators is up-to-date.
- Perform maintenance and inventory updates. Interface with the equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems; maintain a record of repairs.
- Evaluate new equipment and identify opportunities for technology improvement. Conduct research and make recommendations on new technologies.
- Work with the campus Office of Information Technology to resolve any issues with campus-related hardware and networking.
- Understand campus networking and required systems that allow vendors, faculty, staff, and students to access critical materials.
- Provide technical support and maintenance for computerized task trainers in the practice labs, especially those associated with the Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) program. Participate in setup/take down of scheduled AGNP summer sessions in the practice labs.
- Provide back-up support for other projects in the practice labs as needed.
Training & Development (10%)
- Keep apprised of all emerging technologies affecting simulation and data capture and participate in technical training.
- Ensure that knowledge and expertise in the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators is always up-to-date.
- Maintain current knowledge of simulation resources.
- Research new innovations and provide recommendations and training for new resources as needed.
- Provide training/support/consulting to faculty and other staff as needed.
Inventory, Records and Data Management (10%)
- Assist with disposable inventory organization, identify needs, and make recommendations.
- Assist with the management of records and data within the simulation center including learner and facilitator evaluations, usage statistics, equipment spec,s and documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
|
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, and database use.
- Technology, multimedia, audio/visual experience including knowledge of networks, computer security, databases, servers, decoders, audio mixers, etc. Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment and technology failures in a timely fashion.
- Ability to work independently under limited supervision, including learning new software/hardware quickly.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a team environment with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training. Express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with attention to detail. Includes work under pressure and critical decision making.
- Creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solving problems and improving processes.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
- Experience in pre-hospital, hospital, medical military environment, or any other healthcare experience.
- Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, and editing.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.
- Healthcare experience/knowledge – LPN, CNA, EMT, MA, or similar credential, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
|
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.
|
Preferred Qualifications:
|
- Technology, multimedia, audio/visual experience including knowledge of networks, computer security, databases, servers, decoders, audio mixers, etc. Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment and technology failures in a timely fashion.
- Experience or training with electronic health records.
- College teaching experience or equivalent.
- Able to work evenings or weekends, when needed.
- Previous healthcare experience.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) Certification

Salary and Benefits:
