Job Summary/Basic Function:

Coordinate activities in residential facilities; order supplies and determine the need for maintenance, repairs, and furnishings. May maintain household records and assign rooms. May assist residents with problem solving or refer them to counseling resources.

Level Scope:

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Essential Functions:

60% of the time the Resident Director must:

  • Communicate with other staff to resolve problems with individual students
  • Observe students to detect and report unusual behavior.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate residence hall staff, including resident assistants, participants in work-study programs, and other student workers.
  • Provide emergency first aid and summon medical assistance when necessary
  • Make regular rounds to ensure that residents and areas are safe and secure.
  • Provide continuous interaction and examples which encourages students to act with reason, to assume responsibility for their actions, and to be consistently considerate of the rights and freedoms of others.
  • Meet On-Duty Responsibilities as designated by their supervisor, and attend mandatory weekly staff meetings.
  • Provide a safe environment - one that promotes both physical and emotional well-being

35% of the time the Resident Director must:

This is a “live-in” position where the staff member lives on campus in an apartment located in a residence hall, suite, townhome, or apartment complex. In addition to receiving housing as part of the remuneration, they also receive a “Commuter Meal Plan” while Fall and Spring semester are in session with the expectation they are building relationships and community with their residents in the dining venues located on campus. We are committed to creating a professional development plan for our positions within the department and limiting this position to four (4) academic years in the appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience

Salary and Benefits:

Salary ranges from $42,910 - $47,590 depending on experience.
