As the College of Engineering celebrates its 25th year, the research activity of the faculty has nearly tripled over the last five years ($6M in FY17 and $16.5M in FY22). The trajectory is part of the college's growing commitment and energy around research excellence, in addition to continuing a strong tradition in undergraduate education. The successful candidate will continue supporting this research focus as they grow the department and enrollment. The next Department chair will be skilled in building strong industry relationships for both educational and research partnerships.

Successful candidates must be highly collaborative and demonstrate a clear vision for expanding research and building strong relationships with local industry, academic departments on campus, and across the national academic community. In addition, the next Department Chair must be able to articulate a clear vision for the future of the Department in Electrical Engineering education for both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
This position reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering.
- An earned doctorate in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related discipline.
- Academic credentials consistent with the rank of full professor, or eligibility to be appointed at the rank of full professor at date of hire, as demonstrated by a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship that exhibit commitment to academic excellence.
- Demonstrated administrative and leadership skills.
- Strong research background to lead the department and to mentor and develop new faculty.

About the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Boise State provides excellent educational opportunities and hands-on research experiences for all students. The Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering at Boise State University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET
The ECE Department at Boise State is enjoying a great diversity in research activity and educational programs. The department is an exciting space for a leader to move forward with multiple faculty positions. The new chair is expected to work with local industry to build research and educational activities and to guide department strategies and vision to support these efforts. The ECE Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering as well as Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Living in the Area
Boise is Idaho’s capital and a city consistently recognized as one of the nation’s best places to live. Each year the city ranks on multiple top 10 lists and has been placed among the best U.S. downtowns, the best city to raise a family, the healthiest, the best place to retire, the best place to be a doctor, and a good spot for yogis and asthmatics. Beautifully situated at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills, downtown Boise is the cultural center and home to a variety of shopping and dining experiences. The downtown area contains a pedestrian zone with sidewalk cafes and many local restaurants, bars, and boutiques. The city’s attractions include the art deco Boise Art Museum and sculpture garden; the sandstone Idaho State Capitol Building; the classic Egyptian Theatre; the Basque Block, which showcases Boise's Basque heritage; and Zoo Boise on the grounds of Julia Davis Park. Boise offers numerous recreational opportunities, including extensive hiking and biking in the foothills north of downtown. The Boise River runs through the heart of the city and an extensive twenty-five-mile urban trail system called the Boise River Greenbelt runs along the river and features walking, jogging, and biking paths; prime wildlife habitat; and is a common destination for swimming, rafting, kayaking, and fishing.
