The Department of Geosciences at Boise State University invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geophysics, beginning August 2024. We seek a motivated scientist and educator with skills and expertise in Geodynamics, preferably with an emphasis in Geodesy and/or Seismology, to complement our current areas of excellence and to take our program in new directions.  The successful candidate will contribute to the Geoscience curricula through both undergraduate and graduate teaching and will build a strong research program through a combination of external funding and departmental support.  We welcome candidates excited to foster new research collaborations while building a teaching portfolio within a departmental and university community that values inclusive learning and scholarship.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in geophysics or related field is required, including evidence for achieving excellence in research and teaching commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  1. Research interests that complement existing areas of strength within the geophysics program;
  2. Experience or strong interest in supporting student success through an accessible, inclusive, and equitable learning environment;
  3. Evidence of ability to procure grant funding;
  4. Demonstrated ability in teaching geophysics and computational techniques and commitment to advancing instruction of these topics across the Geosciences curriculum in collaboration with other faculty;
  5. Experience or strong interest in evidence-based instructional practices in teaching and mentoring; and
  6. Evidence for ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups within and external to the university.

Salary and Benefits 

Salary will be for a 9-month per year appointment, with pay and benefits distributed over 12 months.  Salary amount will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
