Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of Boise State University’s educational training to promote awareness of security, ethics, privacy, and compliance considerations pertaining to aspects of undue foreign influence, conflicts of interest, research security, controlled data, and export control. The position will also support team members managing export control, controlled data, undue foreign influence, conflict of interest, and research security-related programs. This position is hybrid eligible but must be available for in-person workshop facilitation on campus in Boise, Idaho.

Department Overview:

The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) provides assistance to faculty, staff, and students in certain areas of research and some academic activities to comply with federal, state, and local laws/regulations as well as certain sponsor requirements and University policies. We are seeking a Compliance Training Specialist to support the development and implementation of Boise State University’s educational training to promote awareness of security, ethics, privacy, and compliance considerations pertaining to aspects of undue foreign influence, conflicts of interest, research security, controlled data, and export control. 

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

95% of time the Compliance Training Specialist must:

  • Establish outreach and training programs to generate awareness and understanding of ethics, integrity, privacy, security, compliance policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Create, manage, and edit a regular newsletter to provide value to subscribers in a manner that organically grows readership.
  • Synthesize regulatory hot topics and law-related current events into quickly understandable articles, soundbites, videos, or the like.
  • Pursue funding opportunities such as grants to support security, ethics, privacy, and compliance in the public interest.
  • Design educational training programs tailored to various learning styles and needs, including familiarity with chunking content into manageable sections to avoid overwhelming the intended audience.
  • Generate engaging and informative content, such as videos, podcasts, newsletters, presentations, quizzes, or interactive exercises.
  • Present ideas, training materials, and imperatives in a clear and concise fashion, including strong writing skills for an audience of well-educated readers, listeners, or viewers.
  • Listen, understand, and respond to trainee concerns and questions both correctly and with diplomacy.
  • Measure the results of educational training through assessments, quizzes, surveys, or similar feedback mechanisms.

5% of time the Compliance Training Specialist must:

  • Perform other duties as assigned, primarily those necessary to support ethics, integrity, privacy, security, and compliance matters related to research activities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement and project management.
  • Ability to communicate complex messages effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to accurately organize highly-precise information and perform work with an attention to detail.
  • Basic video and audio editing skills to produce multimedia content, such as instructional videos or podcasts.
  • Experience with and knowledge of instructional design principles and strategies.
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles to create visually appealing slides, infographics, or illustrations that enhance learning.
  • Basic understanding of the tenets of inclusive teaching.
  • Ability to work as a flexible team player, both independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to proactively identify and work towards solutions in an agile manner while exhibiting high ethical standards.
  • Ability to self-regulate multiple priorities/tasks and effectively work using video conferencing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain new tools, partnerships, and resources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Ability to use speech-writing techniques to align with high-level goals and messaging frameworks.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 2 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant professional experience in communications, marketing, business, or education applied to a regulatory-driven or research-related field.
  • Familiarity with e-learning/communication platforms and tools (e.g., Canvas, Wordpress, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, iSpring, audio/video editing and creation).
  • Familiarity with instructional design models like ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) or SAM (Successive Approximation Model).
  • Knowledge of higher education and research environment.
Salary and Benefits:
