Job Summary/Basic Function:

Work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and senior management on marketing and business development projects. Direct and coordinate the marketing and public relations activities and lead proposal efforts from kick-off call to proposal submission.

This position may have the opportunity to work hybrid where a mix of in-person work from a Boise State worksite and an alternative work location within Idaho is utilized. Candidates must be able to work on-site as needed.

The Division of Extended Studies is on a mission to extend higher education beyond traditional boundaries. The Marketing and Communications team, within the Division of Extended Studies, focuses on the awareness and promotion of Boise State Online and programs supported by the Division of Extended Studies. The team is composed of professionals with a variety of skill sets spanning creative, marketing and content development. The team draws on these diverse talents to collaboratively achieve goals.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures. Typically hold a Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential Functions:

● Support employee marketing initiatives including marketing events, media activity, speaking engagements and trade shows.
● Establish and maintain a comprehensive public relations program that builds cooperative relationships with representatives of community, public interest groups and the media to generate positive, professional name recognition for the specified department.
● Maintain a sound understanding of departmental and university policies, academic requirements, ability to navigate university channels, and balance the needs of faculty, staff and students.
● Provides value added input on strategy, resources, teaming partners, and cross selling opportunities.
● Lead the development of strategic approaches to communication plans and branding strategies that are tailored to the specific department’s goals.
● Develop timelines to ensure publishing of media is completed as required and the content and delivery is appropriately planned for the target audience.
● Drive innovations and enhancements to employee communications, programs and platforms
● Work with internal and external stakeholders, functional leads, and project managers to develop training and resource material and/or sessions for media software, process workflows, and other assigned subject matter.
● Regularly contributes to the development of new practices, techniques, and standards and is recognized as a communications expert.
● Utilize content marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) best practices to help drive appropriate audiences to achieve program goals.
● Track messaging efficacy and enhance strategies based on data-driven insights.
● Translate strategy to user experience objectives; Develop layout and concept designs and copy for marketing campaigns and program promotion. Collaborate on related project plans to provide details on scope and timelines.
● Make recommendations to management based on research of relevant web trends, usability testing and peer benchmark assessments to enhance the user experience.
● Maintain content, function, accessibility and visual integrity for Extended Studies web presence.
● Serves as style and branding expert for written material produced by the department. Reviewing and contributing the written pieces across the team. Format, edit and review content for final placement with consideration of brand consistency, engagement goals, best practices and user experience.
● Develop and manage content for the web and through customer relationship management systems.
● May perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

● Demonstrated ability to sell ideas and motivate personnel
● Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills
● Ability to handle a variable workload and meet deadlines
● Highly organized, hardworking, dynamic, and takes initiative
● Good knowledge of: editing skills with an eye for detail; web technologies.
● Experience: communicating efficiently, both verbally and in writing; collecting and analyzing data; strong understanding of social media related platforms, Microsoft Office products and marketing analytics.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years experience or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

● 1 year experience writing in AP Style.
● 2 years long-form content writing experience.
● 1 year Higher Education experience.
● 1 year web content experience.

Salary and Benefits:
